Our final music video - The Kooks - 'She Moves In Her Own Way'

Our FINAL CD covers

After receiving audience feedback from a survey we carried out on our practice CD cover we decided to change some aspects to make our final CD cover. We concentrated on the picture quality and ensured that we did not change the ratio as the pictures gained a grainy effect. We also changed the text on the front cover to fit the genre better than it did before. below is our CD front cover and back of the front, our CD insert and our CD back cover.

Evaluation Process

In our evaluation we divided the questions as followed:-

Q1- We all did separate posts as it is an opinionated question.
Q2- Dom completed this question.
Q3- We all contributed to this question as we chose to do a news report on audience feedback.
Q4- I completed this question.

Due to myself and Dom having different ancillary pieces to Molly and Misha we chose to do two different evaluations (1 for each group) and chose to do Q3 all together as is was an audience feedback question for our music video.

During the evaluation stage I found that me and Dom worked extremely well together and spread the workload evenly. This allowed us to evaluate our course as thoroughly as possible and get the best possible quality of work as we could.

Evaluation Q4

Evaluation Q3

When carrying out question 3 of our evaluation we chose to go for a news report style of giving audience feedback. We wanted to add an element of humour to our news report as we felt this would make it more entertaining for the viewing audience.

CD cover - trial run

Today we finished our CD cover for our music video 'She Moves In Her Own Way' by The Kooks. We wanted the CD cover to link to our band website so we took into account colour, images and font when designing it. We carried out an audience survey on whether they liked it or if improvement needed to be made. 84% of the people we asked thought that it was the perfect CD cover for the band and genre of music. The other 16% also liked the CD cover however they thought more colour could be added to the front cover. We took this feedback into careful consideration and decided to add a slight brightness effect to the front cover. We are extremely happy with our trial piece and here is our CD cover below.

Website decisions

Within our group we had some disagreement on our ancillary products (website and CD cover). Myself and Dominic created one set and so did Molly and Misha. We could not choose between the two so decided to carry out an audience survey to see which they preferred. They came to the decision that they could not choose between the two. This lead to the decision of us submitting the one we felt was the best. Me and Dominic chose to stick with our ancillary products and they chose to stick with theirs.

CD cover research

When researching the style of CD cover we wanted to use we took the time to look in depth at some of The Kooks previous albums to see the style on genre we wanted to create when producing our final design. Below are some examples of previous CD covers.

Filming

During the half term week in February, we carried out the remaining filming in which we needed to be able to give our group the best chance of finishing our music video in time. The filming took place in a local nature reserve as we wanted to show the love between the two main characters (Dominic Collins and Izzy Hampson). However we also wanting to follow the funny genre we applied when filming in the DCAS studios, so we included a variety of shots where the two of them were playing around. When viewing over our footage when returning to school, we decided to use some of the extracts in our music video, because as a group we thought viewers would enjoy this type of content more than just having romance all of the way throughout.

Website - Our final choice

When planning our website we decided to create it in Wix. This site enabled us to get the appropriate template for our website page. We decided to use a black and white theme throughout, as this matched our logo and genre of music. When designing our logo the biggest problem occurred when trying to format all of the pictures of the band and getting the correct consistency of colour throughout to match the website home page. We carried out an audience research survey to see what we could improve when we publish our final website. We discovered that we need to add a YouTube link of our final music video to the final page and also we need to work on the font and colour matching the design of the website and picture gallery. We also found out that the audience would like to see more pictures of the band together rather than individual photos of each band member. Below is the link to our final website.

Logo

During our planning for our band website, one of the biggest hurdles in which we came across was finding a suitable design for our logo. We wanted to find a font/colour that suited the genre of music. We struggled on deciding the layout and format for the final logo and in the end we decided on going for a simplistic but effective design. We have used black and white font and kept the font style basic in order to fit the style of 'indie' music.
